The Obstacle Is The Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph

I am not sure I like the premise of “The Obstacle is the Way”. It doesn’t really fit my life philosophy. I am an unabashed optimist. I believe we should focus on what went right instead of what went wrong. We spend way too much time working on our weaknesses and not on our strengths. However, I found myself enjoying this book. “The Obstacle Is The Way” is a fascinating and eye opening look at how our perceptions of events and not the event itself that make us fail or succeed. It uses robust examples like John D. Rockefeller, Tommy Johns and even Laura Ingalls Wilder to illustrate how triumph can be found when it seems failure is the only possible outcome.

The steps suggested by the author are really easy to get your arms around:

• Be objective
• Control emotions
• Choose to see the good
• Steady your nerves
• Ignore what limits others
• Keep things in
perspective
• Be in the moment
• Focus on what can be
controlled

I try to look at my trials as a challenge to succeed. Reading this book is the blueprint on how to triumph when faced with difficult trials and challenges. It is one of those books I will keep on the shelf and refer back it to it when I need a refresher. It is that helpful!
