What's Chip Reading?

The Advantage: Why Organizational Health Trumps Everything Else in Business

If you read a lot, as I do, you can tell what is a genuine effort or when someone is phoning it in. Lencioni is phoning this one in. The concepts are all timeless, which means they have been discussed ad nauseum in other tomes. It seems like Lencioni succumbed to the adage "Publish or perish."

Unlike the other books that Lencioni has a part in, "The Advantage" is not written as a fable. Using a comprehensive approach, he attempts to define all aspects of what makes a business succeed. Lencioni looks at four specific elements offering solutions to keep any organization healthy. Again, if you read a lot, there are no surprises here. Maybe a clever turn of phrase or two, but nothing earth shattering. If you only read a few business books a year, then this is a worthwhile effort. If you are smitten with Lencioni, and believe he can do no wrong, you will love this book. I was under-whelmed.
