I Hear You: The Surprisingly Simple Skill Behind Extraordinary Relationships

There is an old saying: “There is no such thing as a bad short speech”. That is true with books as well. I Hear You is a good short book that packs a lot of impact into its brief words. In the book, Michael describes a simple concept—validation—an makes the concept accessible and usable to the wider audience. I listened to the audiobook and it clocks in at 3 hours. That is about the time it takes to listen to a couple of podcasts!

The bottom line: if you want to improve your relationships, learn this skill. It will improve your ability to negotiate conflict and create connection out of confrontation. It will improve your ability to communicate with your boss and your employees, your significant other and your progeny, your parents and your siblings. It will help you make your close friends closer and help you make everyday interactions pleasant.

While this short book could have been even shorter, the examples given illuminate the concept and help you imagine having validating conversations. This is a book that I will recommend again and again.
