What's Chip Reading?

Empathy (HBR Emotional Intelligence Series)

Empathy is essential to fostering real long term relationships with those around you. It is more than caring about someone’s opinion or feelings, it is the ability to understand how someone feels, to put yourself in their shoes. The key to becoming more empathic is simple, but difficult to do. It is listening, truly listening. It means to fully listen, not just listening so you can prepare a response. It is asking great questions that can elicit full statements that encourage and build understanding. That is something we all can work on. Empathy is the 3rd in the Harvard Business Review 4 part series. Part 4 will be next month and I look forward to reading and reviewing the final book. Enjoy!
